The Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is scheduled to meet in St. Kitts today.

Antigua & Barbuda will be represented by Minister of Finance & Economy Dr. Errol Cort and Financial Secretary Whitfield Harris Jr.

During the meeting, the council will be updated on Antigua & Barbuda's progress as it seeks to implement personal income tax. The Monetary Council will also look at public sector reform, performance of the economies and other policies initiated to deal with the overall fiscal programmes in the various countries.

The Monetary Council consists mainly of prime ministers and finance ministers of OECS member states.

The board of directors, however, is made up of financial secretaries from the member states.

The St. Kitts meeting of the ECCB's Monetary Council will also be attended by Anguilla, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and host St. Kitts/Nevis.

The one-day gathering is to chart the way forward for the ECCB member territories in light of the current international environment, and the challenges facing the region.
